Legal — but human

Terms & Privacy.

We know legal documents are about as exciting as watching paint dry, but stick with us — we've made this as human-friendly as possible while still keeping the lawyers happy.

The TL;DR

By using Wakeout, you agree to these terms. We respect your privacy, you're responsible for exercising safely, and we're here to help you escape the chair trap. Simple as that.

Part one

Wakeout App (iOS)

Last updated: July 2025 (now with Screen Time API info)

Notifications (your movement lifeline)

The truth: Notifications are optional, but turning them off is like buying an alarm clock and removing the batteries. Our smart reminders are literally the difference between escaping the chair trap and staying stuck. They're not spam — they're rescue signals.

First things first: stay safe, move smart

Look, we love that you're ready to break free from sedentary life, but let's be clear about something important:

The safety agreement: By using Wakeout, you agree that it's YOUR responsibility to keep yourself safe. If you injure yourself, you agree to absolve Wakeout and its team of any and all responsibility for injury of any kind.

Here's the deal:

  • Wakeout is an exercise app (revolutionary, we know). Even though our movements are designed to be safe and accessible for all levels, doing them incorrectly could result in injury.
  • New to moving your body? Awesome. But please consult a doctor or qualified professional before starting. We're movement motivators, not medical professionals.
  • We're not a rehab app. We don't treat injuries or physical disorders — we prevent them by keeping you moving.
  • Start slow. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is your escape from the chair trap. Do movements at YOUR pace and intensity.
  • Listen to your body. Wakeouts should feel good, not painful. If something hurts, stop immediately.

Your privacy: we guard it like our coffee

What we collect (spoiler: not much)

When you Sign in with Apple (SiWA):

  • We save your name (because “Hey You” gets old fast).
  • If you share your email, we'll use it for important notifications (no spam, promise).
  • Everything's encrypted because your data deserves a fortress.

Anonymous usage data:

  • Which features are popular (so we can make them even better).
  • Which exercises get the most love (shoulder rolls are winning, BTW).
  • General usage patterns (all aggregated, nothing personal).

Sync data:

  • Your exercise count and preferences (so all your devices stay in sync).
  • Stored securely on our servers (Fort Knox has nothing on us).

Screen Time API — your apps, your business

Here's the exciting part about our Active Pass feature:

The privacy win: We use Apple's Screen Time API to help you turn screen time into movement time. But here's the beautiful part — we CANNOT and will NEVER see how you use your apps.

What this means:

  • Zero app usage data collected. We don't know if you're on TikTok for 3 hours or reading the news.
  • Apple protects everything locally. Your app usage data never leaves your device.
  • We only see which apps exist on your device (so you can choose which ones to make “movement rewards”).
  • Complete privacy. We couldn't spy on your app habits even if we wanted to (which we don't).
Think of it like having a really respectful roommate who can lock the fridge but has no idea what you're eating.

Heads up: Screen Time API access is optional, but we seriously recommend enabling it. Without Active Pass, you're missing out on Wakeout's most powerful feature — the one that makes movement irresistible by turning your apps into rewards. It's like having a Ferrari but never taking it out of first gear.

Our service providers (the good guys)

We work with a few trusted partners to make Wakeout awesome:

  • Amplitude: Helps us understand which features rock and which need work (all anonymous).
  • Firebase / Crashlytics: Our app crash detective (only gets technical info, no personal data).
  • RevenueCat: Keeps track of subscription health (aggregate data only).
  • OneSignal: Delivers those motivating notifications (just device IDs, nothing personal).

Apple HealthKit (optional but awesome)

What we can write:

  • Active minutes (because you earned them).
  • Workout sessions (proof of your chair-escape victories).

What we can read (if you let us):

  • Heart rate, weight, and activity data (for more accurate calorie tracking).

Our promise: Health data is sacred. We don't mine it, sell it, share it, or use it for anything except helping you track your progress. Period.

Real talk: Apple Health access is technically optional, but skipping it seriously damages your Wakeout experience. Without it, we can't track your movement properly, calculate accurate Wakeout Watts, or celebrate your victories. It's essential for the full experience — like trying to drive without wheels.

Subscription required (because good things aren't free)

Let's talk dollars and sense:

The deal: You must have an active subscription to use Wakeout. No subscription = no movement revolution. But here's the good news — we offer both recurring subscriptions AND a one-time lifetime purchase option for those who hate monthly bills.

  • Apple handles everything. We don't touch your payment info — that's between you and Tim Cook.
  • Auto-renewal alert: iTunes bills you 24 hours after your trial ends, then auto-renews unless you cancel 24 hours before.
  • Full access included. Your subscription unlocks EVERYTHING — all movements, features, and future updates.
  • Lifetime option available. Pay once, move forever. It's like buying your freedom from the chair trap permanently.
  • Price changes. We might run promotions, but if you're already subscribed, your price stays locked in. Early-bird privileges.

Managing your subscription

From Wakeout:

  • Tap the menu (three green lines, top left).
  • Tap “Manage subscription”.
  • Sign into iTunes and make your changes.

From iOS Settings:

  • Settings → iTunes & App Store.
  • Tap your Apple ID → Sign in.
  • Subscriptions → Wakeout.
  • Manage to your heart's content.

Refunds: Need a refund? Apple handles those too. Simply go to reportaproblem.apple.com.

Want your data or want it gone?

Your data, your choice. Here's how to manage it:

To delete your data:

  • Open Wakeout and Sign in with Apple.
  • Get to the paywall screen.
  • Scroll all the way down (keep going… almost there…).
  • Tap “Delete My Data”.
  • Poof. You're gone from our servers.

For any other data questions, email us at hello@wakeout.co. We love transparency.

Changes to these terms

Sometimes we need to update this document (laws change, features evolve, lawyers insist). When we do:

  • We'll announce it on our App Store listing.
  • Continuing to use Wakeout means you're cool with the changes.

The bottom line

We built Wakeout to help you escape the chair trap and live a more energized life. These terms ensure we can do that while keeping you safe and your privacy protected.

By using Wakeout, you're joining a movement (literally) of people who refuse to let furniture dictate their vitality. Welcome to the revolution.

Part two

Wakeout for Chrome

Last updated: November 2025
The TL;DR: Wakeout for Chrome is a privacy-first extension. No data collection. No sign-up. Just simple movement reminders that save locally in your browser. It's that simple.

Privacy-first approach

Our promise: Wakeout for Chrome is built with privacy at its core. We don't collect any personal data, period. Your movement statistics, preferences, and usage patterns never leave your browser.

What this means for you:

  • No sign-up required. Start using Wakeout immediately after installation — no account creation, no email, no password.
  • No user-identifiable information collected. We don't track who you are, what sites you visit, or how you browse.
  • All statistics saved locally. Your movement count, preferences, and settings live in your browser's local storage — completely private and secure.
  • No third-party tracking. We don't share data with advertisers, analytics companies, or anyone else because we don't have any data to share.

Rudimentary Google Analytics

Here's the only analytics we use (and why):

Minimal analytics: We use basic Google Analytics solely to understand if the extension is working properly and being used. This includes anonymous aggregated data like installation counts and basic usage patterns — nothing personally identifiable.

What we track (anonymously):

  • Extension installations and uninstalls (to know if people find it useful).
  • Basic usage events (like “reminder shown” or “movement completed” — all anonymous).
  • Technical errors (so we can fix bugs and improve the experience).
Think of it like a headcount at a concert — we know people showed up, but we have no idea who they are.

Completely free (no catch)

Free forever: Wakeout for Chrome is completely free. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no premium features. We built it as a simple tool to help you move more while working — that's it.

Your responsibility: move safely

Safety first: Just like with the iOS app, you're responsible for exercising safely. If you injure yourself while doing a movement, you agree to absolve Wakeout and its team of any and all responsibility for injury of any kind.

  • Listen to your body. If something feels wrong, stop immediately.
  • Start at your own pace. Not every movement is for everyone — choose what feels right for you.
  • Consult a professional. If you have any health concerns, talk to a doctor before starting.

Updates to these terms

If we need to update these terms, we'll post the changes here. Continuing to use the extension means you accept the updates.

The bottom line

Wakeout for Chrome is a simple, privacy-first tool to help you move more during your workday. No tracking, no accounts, no hassle — just helpful movement reminders when you need them.

Install it, set your preferences, and start breaking free from the chair trap — right from your browser.
